  Research areas


The three main research areas in INA are: Nanobiomedicine, Nanostructured Materials and Physics of Nanosystems.



Nanobiomedicine uses nanotechnology to improve the ability of medicine to study, diagnose and treat the most common illnesses of the population. New possiblities rise in order to establish new approaches targeted to customized therapies, drug delivery drugs with reduced toxicity and side effects in patient. New devices are developed, such as specific sensors. Also, medical imaging techniques (MRI) are improved thanks to Nanobiotechnology.

Nanostructured materials:

The Area of nanostructured materials is aimed at the synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials: nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, nanofibres, nanoporous interphases, nanocomposites, thin coatings and liquid crystals. Applications of these materials are being developed in a variety of fields from sensors and bactericidal coatings to Nanomedicine.

Physics of nanosystems:

The area of Physics of Nanosystems is devoted to the research of structures and new physical phenomena at the nanoscale (less than 100 nm). Matter shows different behaviour at an atomic level compared to the macroscopic one. Properties at the nanoscale are not ruled by classical Physics laws, but by Microscale and Quantum Mechanics.
